THE ASK
The client reached out to us because she was obsessed with my current NYC apartment, which she discovered on our blog. She wanted a similar look, but she also wanted details that clearly expressed her personality. For her, the design process was very exploratory, and we went through several iterations before the final results came into fruition. The primary ask was a Zen-like atmosphere appropriate for her two young children as well as a space that’d foster imagination and creativity since both she and her husband are artists and performers here in NYC.
THE SOLVE
To ensure each room was fun and creative, we made sure to include lots of color in a very harmonious and sophisticated way. You’ll see this in the bonus room where blues and yellows play together as well as in her daughter’s patterned bedroom. We contrasted this color and vibrancy with grass cloth wall coverings and modern, high-drama pieces. Almost everything in this project is custom made--from the height and make of the bedroom headboard, to the fill and seat height of the sofa, to the extra-long length of the console in the hallway. At Kathy Kuo Designs, we can tailor almost every piece of furniture to fit your space and fulfill your design needs.
