Benches & Desks at the Foot of the Bed: Design Do or Don’t?

Foot of the bed design ideas abound. sometimes, built-in shoe storage can be utilized. But when you’re looking to add extra seating or office space into the bedroom, there’s really no better design idea than to put a bench or desk at the foot of the bed. It’s stylish, and it provides an extra space to play around with, design-wise.

Benches & Desks Add Function

Our favorite pieces to shop for, both for KKH and for our own home, are the sorts of pieces that do double duty. Any good piece of furniture should look good, and of course, serve a function, but the best pieces, in our minds, are the ones that are multi-functional. This is especially important in smaller spaces, where storage comes at a premium.

We love media consoles that can also function as dressers in a space that has to tick multiple boxes, and poufs that can operate both as coffee tables or extra seating.

Benches & Desks Add Design Panache

One of our very favorite multi-purpose pieces is the bench. Decorating with benches is easy, in part because they fit in just about anywhere. They’re a great piece for the entryway, where they can function as a place to put boots on in the early mornings, or a place to sit and chat with the kids before school. In the living room, they can be used as a footstool, a coffee table, extra seating…the possibilities are endless!

They’re an even better piece for the bedroom; we love nothing more good benches flanking the foot of a bed (don’t even get us started on how much we love a pair of x-benches at the foot!).

Benches & Desks Are Perfect for Small Spaces

Benches in the bedroom are the perfect fit. They don’t take up a ton of space, they tuck in nicely at the end of the bed, under the window, or even in a tight corner. They’re a great way to add some extra storage, they’re handy when you get dressed in the morning, and can be a great place to lay out clothing the night before. And of course, the space underneath offers extra storage (might we suggest a few baskets to place underneath?).

If you’re one of those people that has trouble deciding which pieces to splurge on, trust us on this: a bench is always a good idea.
