Classic (also called traditional) end and side tables have that strong, regal look to them. It’s like they’re saying, “You BETTER put down a coaster before you try to set a glass on me.” They are typically made of rich, dark woods and feature ornate details, such as delicate curvature and inlaid tops. Classic style end tables are more formal and can infuse a room with an opulent air.
Since they are such stately pieces, the Kuotes recommends you use them sparingly as too much traditional furniture can be standoffish. However, if you want to increase the elegance of you room, a small touch of traditional style will do the trick.
Rustic style side tables look like they’ve been supporting your lamps, decor, and beverages for years. Common materials include weathered or distressed wood with exposed metal accents, like nail-heads or metal beams and legs. In stark comparison to the classic style, rustic end and side tables look casual and inviting, but they pair well with sleek, modern pieces as well.
French Country end and side tables bring you back to that cute Parisian cottage. There is a romantic feel to them as they feature feminine lines and details with softer edges. These end tables are typically made of wood, often reclaimed or distressed, and are painted in provincial whites and creams. The French Country end table is one of our most popular styles, and they certainly make us swoon.
Modern end and side tables bring us the solidness and simplicity we look for in a table. Rooted in utility, we know that these tables won’t turn on us. But they’re also gorgeous, have an easy elegance, and typically constructed of metal, plastic, glass, or acrylic. The designs you’ll find are geometric and minimal, so they serve as great surfaces for displaying decor.
Industrial end and side tables are reliant. They also mix well with multiple styles (think rustic or modern) and bring a sense of urban style into the home. Industrial side and end tables can be as simple as an industrial spool rescued from the sidewalk, as sophisticated as a sculptural metal mesh basket, or as earthy as a reclaimed wood combined with a vintage metal base.

An end table can be a convenient and addition, as many options include drawers, baskets, cubbies, magazine holders, or racks for instant organization. We love the addition of books, shells, and bowls to an end table. Head over heels for this style? Go ahead, and fall in love.
Nesting: Small living or a tight corner? No problem. Look for and end table that nests. They easily stack to keep your space nice and breathable, but you can quickly unstack for extra tabletop space. These pieces are especially useful in rooms meant for entertaining or relaxing with the family.
Tray Tops: This type of end table is perfect resting grounds for styling your home decor, and they look stunning with a simple glass and coaster. They feature a lip to create cohesion with your tabletop accessories, cups, and more.
Sizing Tip #1. Your end table should be within two inches of a sofa’s arm height. For example, if the sofa’s arm is 20 inches tall, a proper end table can be anywhere from 18-22 inches tall.
Sizing Tip #2. The bottom of a lampshade shouldn’t be higher than eye level when seated on the sofa or chair that’s next to it. Don’t blind your guests or obscure their vision! Love the natural look of tree stump side tables? We know you do.
