Hollywood royalty Sofia Coppola and her rocker husband Thomas Mars (of the French electropop band Phoenix) agree that is important to have a home that soothes you as soon as you walk in the door–their old Nolita apartment is a study in serenity, a light-filled loft that’s all bright whites with pops of color. “My apartment is pretty calm and restrained. I like a clean white backdrop set off by masses and masses of pink peonies,” said Coppola of the space (the couple has since moved to the West Village).
When you live in a city like New York, one that teems with people and towers ready to smother you at a moment’s notice, it’s crucial to have a soothing space to turn to. That’s certainly the case for me; my apartment is done in shades of white and gray with pops of color here and there. It ensures that when I walk through the door, I can take a deep breath, and leave the crazy concrete jungle where it belongs: outside my door.

The couple’s sun-drenched corner unit benefits from huge windows and beamed ceilings, but the goodness doesn’t stop there. The color palette is a muted one, with neutrals, white and pops of blue here and there. Altogether, it’s a calming, serene space, that, while expertly decorated with incredible pieces of art here and there, feels like home.
