Modern Classic Breakfast Nook Reveal with Blogger Kendall Kremer

Hi cuties! I am beyond excited to share an oh-so-lovely breakfast nook reveal that the Kathy Kuo Home Design Team has been working on with one of our favorite bloggers: Kendall Kremer of Styled Snapshots!

You may remember Kendall Kremer from when we worked with her on her gender-neutral nursery design a couple years ago when she was preparing to welcome her son Logan. Now, she and her super-cute family have moved from New York City to the suburbs of Connecticut and Kendall is expecting her second child this month. Of course, when we heard Kendall Kremer needed some help designing and furnishing a breakfast nook in her new Connecticut home, we were thrilled to be working with her again!

“The KKH Team showed me options I would have never imagined pairing together myself (like the deeper wood tone in our table), but also stayed true to my style and the flow of our home.” –Kendall Kremer

Tell us a bit about the essence of your business, Styled Snapshots!

I started Styled Snapshots back in 2013 and at the time it was primarily fashion focused. As the years went on I loved starting to incorporate different aspects of my life into my blog and have it evolve as I evolved. Travel, motherhoodcooking, and home decor have been such fun aspects to intertwine throughout.

My overall goal is to provide a place that people look forward to visiting on the web and want to come back to. A resource and source of inspiration for all no matter where you are in life.

You and your family moved from NYC to Connecticut this past year. How has that transition been?

It has been incredible! We lived in NYC for 12 years and were lucky to have our first son, Logan, be born there and experience almost two years of City life. Now that we are in the ‘burbs, there are of course things I miss, but haven’t looked back.

Logan (and even our pup Hadley) are thriving, there is so much to see and do and I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t loving the process of making our house a home and for all the memories to come.

What were some of your top must-haves when choosing a home for your family?

My husband, Matt, still needed to have a quick-ish commute to NYC, so that factor played a huge role. in our choice I have always loved Connecticut and with work-from-home on the rise, Matt knew he wouldn’t have to be in the office five days a week, so we expanded our search a bit. I wanted a street and town that reminded me of where I grew up and I got this overwhelming feeling of that when we turned onto our street to look at this house.

Before even stepping inside, I looked at Matt and said: “This is the one, it has to be ours!” We both love a house with character over a new build, so that was something that took priority on our list as well as having a little bit of land and natural light. Also, I truly don’t plan to move again, so we wanted a house that could grow with us as our family grew.

How would you describe your home design style? What are you drawn to most naturally?

Comfort, neutrals, and just a warm and welcoming feeling. I wanted to create a space that was something Matt and I loved, but also functional for having a family of two little boys and a dog. We always are drawn to the 1 Hotels decor and vibe when we travel and wanted to incorporate some of that into our own home.

Tell us about your initial vision for the breakfast nook? What were the “musts”?

To be honest, I was at a loss! I was excited about the space and potential and fell in love with all the natural light that seeped into the room, but couldn’t figure out what would work best in that space and also not mess with the overall flow. Two musts I did have were a round table and seating for five, since I envisioned our family meals being here and our kids doing their homework over the years (we would ideally love three children eventually).

How was it working with KKH on making this space come together?

Honestly, it was the best! When I initially wasn’t loving any of the lighting options, the Team happily went back and came up with another plan. The communication was key and I could tell they really listened to what I was envisioning and hoping for while giving me some of their guidance and knowledge on what would work best.

What do you love most about the KKH dining table and chairs you ended up selecting?

The chairs I had my eye on and fell in love with them instantly. From the gold detailing on the back, to being comfortable and the best yet, performance fabric for all the little sticky fingers that will fill our household. The table was the best surprise, like I mentioned before it just wasn’t something I would initially choose on my own and I love how it ties together with the darker wood tones in our kitchen right off this nook.

Any tips you can share for other families considering making the move from a big city to the suburbs?

Do it when you feel ready! This timeline was always what Matt and I talked about. Once Logan started walking and we wanted to try for baby No. 2 we just knew it was time to plant our roots outside the City. We both grew up in the suburbs and knew it was what we wanted for our family long term.
